How to be Good?
Bitesize: Let's Do 3 Good Things!
Show Notes Transcript

For our Bitesize Episode* this month, we’re taking some advice from Hindu Pandita Indrani Rampersad:

"You know I used to teach High School in New York, and I used to teach my kids everyday – when you go home, I want you to do three good things. And tomorrow when you come, tell me what you did.”

This month, let’s do 3 good things – just 3 little things - each day, and make note of what they were at the end of that day because whatever we focus on becomes our reality, so let’s make goodness our reality for the next few weeks.

*In Bitesize Episodes, we’re going to take a few minutes to focus on a theme, topic, or piece of advice related to “How to be Good” that’s come up in our interviews. We'll talk about how we can put advice from our interviews to practical use in our daily life.

Hi everyone, I'm Sarah and this is "How to be Good?" - the podcast that explores what it means to be a good person in today's world.

For our bitesize edition this month, we’re taking some advice from Hindu Pandita Indrana Rampersad

Dr. Pandita Indrani Rampersad
“You know I used to teach High School in New York, and I used to teach my kids everyday – well when you go home, I want you to do three good things. And tomorrow when you come, tell me what you did.”

So, let’s try this exercise ourselves.

For our “How to be Good” challenge this month, let’s do 3 good things – just 3 little things - each day, and make note of what they were at the end of that day – they can be small things like smiling at a stranger or unloading the dishwasher for you family, or larger acts of kindness like donating to charity or doing a favour for a friend.

Anything that feels to you like a good thing.

And don’t forget, you can do good things for yourself too; making yourself a hot cup of tea if you’re feeling stressed, or taking a walk in the park in your lunch break. Anything goes.

The key is for us to notice these little acts of goodness, and take a mental note before we go to sleep each night.

As Pandita Indrani found with her students:

Dr. Pandita Indrani Rampersad [01:22]
“It was changing them as well. It was like beginning to say something nice to somebody and to do something good for somebody. It was making an awareness in their head”

So, let’s do this…
